About Me & Anglesey Cycleworks

I started cycling properly in my teenage years, back in the 80's, joining Clifton Cycling Club, York. This was an attempt by my parents to focus my enthusiasm for cycling, by making me learn how to ride a bike properly and most importantly how to ride safely.

With the support of Tony Boswell Cycles in York and my parents, I had some limited success in time trials and road races, but what I really enjoyed was taking my bike apart, fixing it and fine tuning it for the next race.

I joined the Royal Air Force in 1990 and it was while I was trying to build my career and raise a family that my cycling slowly dropped off my radar and eventually stopped. It wasn't until many years later that I decided to start riding again, but this time it was on the advice of a medical professional.

Unfortunately, my career had taken its toll on me and I found myself under the care of military mental health services.  Although I initially resisted their help, I soon benefited from their support.  They helped look after my psychological wellbeing, introduced me to a range of programmes and resources, including mental health treatment and specialised care for conditions like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. The long and short of it was I got back on my bike, rode from Land's End to John 'O'Groats, and it changed my life for ever.

After leaving the Royal Air Force in early 2025, having completed Thirty five years service, I took my rekindled passion for cycling and turned it into Anglesey Cycleworks, not for great profit, but to spread the word about the health benefits of cycling and to help make cycling affordable and accessible to everyone on Anglesey, residents and visitors alike.

I was very lucky to have great family, friends and military medical professionals around me when I was unwell, so if you need help with your mental health, talk to your loved ones, talk to trusted friends, talk to your medical professionals and/or get on your bike...... I can help you with the last bit.

Asking for help is not a weakness, it shows great strength and clicking my link to Isle of Anglesey County Council's mental health services could be a first step, if you're looking for one -

Amdanaf Fi & Cycleworks Anglesey

Dechreuais feicio'n iawn yn fy mlynyddoedd cynnar, yn ôl yn yr 80au, gan ymuno â Chlwb Beicio Clifton, Efrog. Ymgais oedd hwn gan fy rhieni i ffocysu fy mrwdfryded am feicio, drwy wneud i mi ddysgu sut i reidio beic yn iawn ac yn bwysicaf oll sut i reidio yn ddiogel. Gyda chefnogaeth Tony Boswell Cycles yn Efrog, sydd bellach wedi diflannu ers amser maith, a'm rhieni, cefais ychydig o lwyddiant mewn treialon amser a rasio ar y ffordd, ond yr hyn yr oeddwn wir yn ei fwynhau oedd tynnu fy beic yn ddarnau, ei atgyweirio a'i fireinio at y ras nesaf.

Ymuniais â'r Llu Awyr Brenhinol yn 1990 a tra roeddwn i'n ceisio adeiladu fy ngyrfa a magu teulu roedd llai a llai o amser i feicio nes yn y pen draw rhoi gorau am y tro. Ond blynyddoedd yn ddiweddarach penderfynnais ddechrau reidio eto, ond y tro hwn, awgrymwyd y peth i mi gan weithiwr meddygol proffesiynol. Yn anffodus roedd fy ngyrfa wedi cymryd toll arnaf a cefais fy hun o dan ofal gwasanaethau iechyd meddwl milwrol. Er i mi wrthod eu cymorth ar y dechrau, cyn hir sylweddolais mod i'n elwa o'u cefnogaeth. Maent wedi helpu i ofalu am fy lles seicolegol, a'm cyflwyno i ystod o raglenni a chyfoeth, gan gynnwys triniaeth iechyd meddwl a gofal arbenigol ar gyfer cyflyrau fel PTSD, iselder, a phryder. Canlyniad hyn oedd i mi fynd yn ôl ar fy meic i reidio o Land's End i John 'O'Groats, ac mae wedi newid fy mywyd am byth.

Ar ôl gadael y Llu Awyr Brenhinol yn gynnar yn 2025,wedi cwblhau 35 mlynedd o wasanaeth, cymerais fy nghariad newydd am feicio a'i droi'n Anglesey Cycleworks, nid am elw mawr, ond i ledaenu'r gair am fanteision iechyd beicio ac i helpu gwneud beicio'n fforddiadwy ac yn hygyrch i bawb ar Ynys Môn, preswylwyr ac ymwelwyr fel ei gilydd. Roeddwn i'n ffodus iawn i gael teulu, ffrindiau a gweithwyr meddygol milwrol gwych o'm cwmpas pan oeddwn i'n sâl, felly os oes angen help arnoch gyda'ch iechyd meddwl, siaradwch â'ch anwyliaid, siaradwch â ffrindiau dibynadwy, siaradwch â'ch gweithwyr meddygol a/neu ewch ar eich beic...... Gallaf eich helpu gyda'r darn olaf.

Nid yw gofyn am gymorth yn wendid, mae'n dangos cryfder mawr ac mae clicio ar fy linc i wasanaethau iechyd meddwl Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn yn gallu bod yn gam cyntaf, os ydych chi'n chwilio am un.
